Having been trading the markets for a few years now, I have spent plenty of money on trading courses ranging from Options to Forex. Some of them have been really helpful and others were simply not worth the time I spent reading them. So how can you be sure if a course is good or bad?
The good news is that AJ Brown’s mentor goes by the name of Bill Poulos, who happens to be the person who taught me the majority of what has made me the success I am today. Ok, so just because Bill taught him well, it doesn’t mean that AJ can teach as effectively himself.
So let’s get straight down to business.
Option Profits Success System: The Course
When I first looked through the OPSS course I wasn’t very suprised as I already knew what I was going to receive, but I was interested to see how AJ was going to organize the course to suit traders with varying levels of experience. This is essential as everybody will want to progress at their own pace.
The course contains:

Over 18 hours of video! 18 hours is a looong time!
I’m not the most patient of people and already know a fair bit about trading, but since I didn’t want to miss anything of importance I was going to have to sit through the whole thing.
This was going to be painful.
Let’s have a closer look at each of the modules…
Module 1: Options and the Funnel Process
The first module teaches you a variety of stategies and rules including the option trading strategy, the bear market trading strategies and how to buy low and sell high among others. I’m not going to go in to great detail about each startegy and lesson he teaches in his modules, you can find the exact course structure on his site, but it’s fair to say that there was nothing hugely groundbreaking in here.
I would say it is essential for newbie traders who have no experience at all, but I can’t say that I took too much from it personally.
Module 2: The Fundamental, Pattern and Full Analysis Filters
This is one of the biggest modules on the course covering over 50 pages of information, including some really helpful indicators to help spot a bear market that most traders miss all together. Much like the first module you will gain from this depending on your level of experience.
If you have no prior knowledge at all then you will want to learn everything that it covers, but if you’ve been trading a while then it wouldn’t hurt if you skipped this section all together.
Module 3: Pattern Analysis Review, the Buffered and Reactive Templates
Again this module is a decent size covering over 40 pages worth of Options trading tactics and while there are no major break through’s, I started to get a feel for AJ’s personal trading knowledge coming through, as he talks about his ‘pet methods’ for spotting Trend Continuations.
The really useful part of this module for beginners is that you learn to spot the tactics used by some of the super traders and how to benefit from them youself. He also shows you how to take advantage of huge movements in stock between Christmas and New Year.
By Module 4 I was Slowly
Ripping My Hair Out
Well, let’s be fair. For someone who is looking to get started with Options trading then the information that AJ Brown provides you with in the first 3 module of his Option Profits Success System course is pretty darn comprehensive.
For me though, it was like giving Joe Montana a guide on how to throw a football and forcing him to sit and read it for several hours!
Module 4: The Chaikin, Trend Reversal and Pattern Alteration Templates
This is another big module in the course which mainly talkes about trend reversal, but perhaps the most important lesson in Module 4 is where most traders fail. As AJ himself says “beginning traders lose big when fooled by false movement” – learn how to spot this and avoid becoming another statistic.
He also talks a little bit about trading without emotion, which is covered in great detail all across the internet. Infact I would say that it is one of the most talked about problems in trading. Learning to trade with your head rather than your heart is paramount for ANY trader, but sadly I don’t feel that it was covered in enough detail here.
Module 5: Completing the Full Analysis, Options Strategies and Automation
The underlying message being taught in this module is to protect yourself when trading. This includes what AJ refers to as a “10 second trick” that ensures you will have plenty of buyers when it comes to the time for you to sell your option.
He also covers what options should be avoided at all costs, specifically talking about some that that are popular with many traders but are more time consuming and risky that the most options. You will get the chance to learn from mistakes that AJ has made himself and by the sounds of it, they are mistakes he made more than once!
Module 6: The Follow Through Filter, Open Position Management, Entering and Exiting Positions
As humans we spend most of our life acting on our insticts, but in trading we have to go against many of our natural insticts and mentalities. In this module AJ Brown talks about how to control your mentality to minimize your losses.
Personally, I thought the two best parts covered here are his 2-step methods, for ordering stops to lock your gains in lock your losses out, and how best to sell your risk having achieved your profit target.
Finally We’re Getting Somewhere!
Module 7: Management and Trading Emotions
At the beginning of this module AJ talks about the ‘Holy Grail’ of Options trading. One trick that you can learn, and he believes that if you do you are half way to becoming an Options trader who has the potential to make serious money. Can it be? Well I’m not allowed to say too much about this but I was pleasantly suprised by it when I read it. Having sat through a lot of fluff to get here I was starting to feel that I was taking something from the Option Profits Success system course.
And as the heading suggests there is more detail here about controlling your emotions. Now I understand why it wasn’t fully covered in Module 4! This is the shortest module in the whole course but for me the best yet. Whenever any guru talks about the ’sweet spot’ in any industry then you have to take note – apparently when your bankroll gets to a certain number it can go up dramatically in no time at all – this I am keen to see for myself!
Module 8: Advanced Strategies and Covered Calls
In this module AJ Brown really brings it all together. I could write for some time about the strategies that are taught, he goes in to great detail about various methods and tools that he uses to make trading not only easier but in some case quicker and all while increasing profit.
With a number of strategies taught you really can choose how you want to trade. If you prefer to opt for a low risk strategy then you can learn how he consistently produces a 7% return with little effort. If you are a little more adventerous like myself then you might prefer to adopt his ’sit and wait’ strategy that works 3-4 times a year but with extremely high rewards.
There are certainly a number of ideas that I will be taking from these two modules in to my own trading strategies and I have no doubt that they will benefit me like they will many other traders who learn from the Trading Trainer.
Bonus Modules and Membership Access
The bonus module focuses on the advanced learning strategies and trading principles. If you are new to trading then there are sections in this module that I wouldn’t worry about to begin with, certainly not until you have a good understand of options trading and want to master the art like a super trader.
There are a few sections though that are suitable for traders with all levels of experience. For example, AJ teaches you to ‘trade with confidence and eliminate nervous errors’. He also includes more mentality training, giving advice on how you can escape the ‘rat race’ mentality and join the investor class.
You will also find PowerPoint slides taken from the videos that review all the key points raised, the various chart patterns and template. As well as a book by Norman Hallett called Mental Fitness for Traders. Some of you may have heard of Norman before – he has been successfully coaching traders for a few years. Infact, I already own a copy of this book and found it to be very helpful when I started trading.
Membership is something that I have always found to be very useful when studying a course. Not only do you have access to tools that can help you trade but you are also in touch with other traders who are working on the same course. This can be hugely beneficial. The only disappointing aspect to this is that you only get 3 months free before you have to pay a monthly fee, instead I would like to see the first year included in the cost of the course.
However, given the information tools at your disposal by the end of the 3 month period you should easily be making enough money to not have to worry about it!
Option Profits Success System: the Conclusion
Overall, I think that Option Profits Success System is more than a solid product, bearing in mind that is has been written for traders of all experience. If you are looking to learn about Options trading from the beginning then there is more than enough information here to help you learn quickly and easily.
Everyone but the most advanced Options experts will learn something from this course. Yes there is a certain amount of fluff, perhaps a few extra tips missing, and those with experience may have to dig around to find the juicy bits of knowledge, but if you are prepared to spend a few hours looking through you can’t fail to become a better trader.
You are also given 60 days to have a look through the content in as much detail as you can before deciding if you really do want to go a head with the course. 60 days is certainly long enough to make your own judgement on whether it can help you learn enough to make money trading options, so I don’t think you can go too far wrong by giving it a try at no risk whatsoever.
But Is It All Good?
The first thing anyone looks at when evaluating a new course is the price and Trading Trainer’s OPSS is certainly not cheap, especially when you consider that you will also need to find money to invest. That said, any decent course is going to cost and if you want to find a good one that really can teach how to make good money trading, then you must be prepared to pay.
You can easily find a course online for a couple of hundred dollars but they are going to be thrown together, using rehashed PLR articles, by some marketer. You may aswell withdraw $200 from your bank account and throw it down the nearest drain. However, if you are prepared to pay a little more and properly educate yourself then the money spent looks like the best investment you ever made.
So if you are not prepared to invest a little time and money then this is not the course for you.
In my conclusion I suggested that there could be a few extra tips in the course, and while they are not essential I do believe they would help new traders understand more about Swing Trading. Why? Because Swing trades are executed in short time frames which are critical to successful Option trading.

An option in a contract that is made between a buyer and a seller that allows the buyer the option to buy or sell an asset before the option’s deadline. The price will be agreed in advanced with the payment going to the seller. A put option gives the buyer the right to sell the asset and a call option allows the buyer to buy the asset.
Options trading varies in many ways to other forms of investment. When you trade in option contracts you have a higher level of flexibility allowing you to place bet on targeted market outcomes.
So someone trading options can place a bet that a stock will be trading above or below a certain prices in 6 months time, much like an eachway bet and the trader will lose a predefined amount if the stock trades between the prices they bet on. This is known as Long Straddle.
